Hearing Communication Devices
When it comes to loud industrial workplaces, it can be a challenge to communicate with your fellow workers. This can be further complicated by confined space entry and other work where line-of-sight between workers isn’t possible, creating yet another hazard for workers who are unable to hear instructions, warnings, or their surroundings.
For this reason, there has been an increase in the number of companies that are using hearing communication devices in the workplace because they feature the hearing protection needed to limit noise exposure, but also contain speakers inside the ear cups that give workers the ability to communicate directly with those around them. There are basically two options for these headsets, headset to headset communication or ambient noise.
Headset to headset communication earmuffs allow workers to speak directly to each other. There are a few different options available, like direct connections for radios. Or, you can skip the portable radios and wires with a Bluetooth headset, which are perfect for short range communication.
Ambient noise models feature microphones on the outside of the ear cups that provide the ability to filter out sounds that are too loud and suppressing them to a lower volume, while allowing quieter sounds – like speech – to pass through to the speakers on the inside. This not only allows face to face communication in noisy areas that require hearing protection, but also allow ambient noise to pass though at safer levels. This keeps the worker’s ability to maintain awareness of their surroundings.
If you have a hard time choosing between these two options, there are headsets that offer both features in one product! Need more information? Let us know and we can guide you through your choice.
