The U.S. beer industry is booming. In 2018, America shipped 202.2 million barrels of beer. That’s equal to 2.8 billion cases!

In Canada, the number of operational brewing facilities across the country has risen by 17.6 per cent from 695 in 2016 to an all-time high of 817 in 2017.

If you’re not a numbers person, don’t worry. It means we’re brewing a lot of beer in North America. From malting and mashing to boiling and fermentation, crafting a good tasting beer is complex.

Today I’m sharing a success story about how we helped a major Canadian brewery solve a servicing issue using the LOBO work platforms.

The Challenge:

Food and beverage processing plants have massive production machines. Maintenance tasks can be difficult and risky when workers have to access awkward areas while working at heights.

Between the boilers and valves, the brewery was having issues assembling scaffolding that could reach the tough servicing spots.

Their question to us was “how can we keep our workers secure, comfortable and compliant when servicing these areas?”

The Solution:

We decided to retire the traditional scaffolding and introduce LOBO work platforms.

This solution let maintenance workers quickly erect the system around the beams and hangers supporting the boilers.

This gave workers easy access to their work area. It also gave them unrestricted access to the regulators for cleaning and repair without needing fall protection equipment.

LOBO is a work platform system that you can assemble into a secure work space in minutes. You can build configuration, shape or size in minutes.

It has a unique clamping design that lets workers build their own work station. There’s no need for extra tools, special training or hiring outside scaffolding companies.

The Results:

Once we brought the LOBO platform into the brewery, the results were huge. The maintenance crew could now work safely and unhindered in the area. They didn’t have to wear fall protection equipment or struggle to work around beams and hangers.

Since the system is on wheels, they could move the platform to other boilers.

The management team at the brewery were happy with the solution because it is:

  • versatile
  • cost effective, and
  • improved productivity.
